NYC Citi Bike Program
NYC Citi Bike Program
Traveling on the busy streets of New York is not an easy task for anyone, whether New Yorker or visitor to the Big Apple. Parking is expensive, traffic is frustrating and the rising cost of gas has become a financial nightmare. However, with the introduction of the NYC Citi Bike Program, individuals are able to enjoy a more convenient and cheaper mode of transportation to move around the city.
The legal team at Gersowitz, Libo & Korek P.C. has outlined a brief overview of how the NYC Citi Bike Program works. For additional information, you can either contact us directly or visit the program’s Citi Bike website.
How the City Bike Program Works
The Citi Bike program, operated by NYC Bike Share, provides thousands of bikes and numerous stations throughout the different boroughs of New York City. These bikes are available 24/7, 365 days a year. The stations are strategically located throughout the different areas based on population and transit needs. You have the option of purchasing a 24-Hour Pass, a 7-Day Access Pass or an Annual Membership, if you are a frequent New York City bicycle rider.
If you are 16 years of age or older, you may enjoy the convenience of a Citi bike by following the three easy steps outlined below:
Unlock
If you are a 24-Hour or 7-Day Pass holder, you will be provided with a ride code, which you will need to type into the keypad on a dock with an available bicycle. Annual Members will need to dip their own unique key, which is provided to them upon the purchase of their membership, into the key slot. Once you have your bike, simply adjust your seat and you are ready to go!
Ride
You can ride your bike as many times as you like during your selected period. For 24-Hour and 7-Day Access Pass holders, you will need to request a new ride code to unlock another bike during your designated riding period. For Annual Members, you will simply dip your key again into a slot at another station for a new ride.
Return
Once you are finished riding, return your bike to one of 600 locations by firmly pushing the bike into the dock station. A blinking green light on the dock station confirms your return and that the bike is properly locked.
Overall, the Citi Bike Share program has been very successful. However, just like with any other mode of transportation, you need to make sure that you are careful when riding and you abide by all laws that apply to other motorists on the road. The more careful you are, the less likely that you will be seriously injured in a New York City bicycle accident.
